Destiny 2 Raid and Dungeon Farming: What Is Still Weekly?
You've finished the raid and bought your weekly red-border weapon, but the Pattern you want still isn't complete. Is that it until reset?
You can keep going. The weekly purchase is only one way to earn Deepsight, and using it doesn't lock you out of encounter loot or the raid's Deepsight Chest. The trick is choosing a run that gives you another shot at what you need.
Here's how farming works for raids and dungeons released before The Edge of Fate, following the Monument of Triumph reward update. The Desert Perpetual and Equilibrium have their own Feats rules, so we'll separate those out below.
Already finished your weekly run?
If you're still working on a raid Pattern, you have a choice: farm an encounter that drops the weapon, or join a run that includes the Deepsight Chest. The vendor's special Deepsight purchase is weekly, but you can earn the Deepsight Chest reward again. In a featured raid, that chest gives a Deepsight weapon, switching to Tier 5 armor once all Patterns are complete.
This is worth mentioning when you join a group. “I'm here for the Deepsight Chest” tells the team something that “I need red borders” doesn't. A group repeating an encounter may be perfect for weapon drops without doing the chest's activation route. When booking a raid clear, select the Deepsight Chest separately where it’s available for your raid. That covers the chosen run, not repeated attempts until the Pattern is finished.
For an encounter farm, start with the weapon's loot source. If it drops earlier in the raid, a final-boss checkpoint won't necessarily help you. Find a group running the part you need, rather than taking the first available clear and hoping the right weapon appears at the end.
What can you farm again?
Keep this table handy when your group is deciding whether to stay for another run. It separates the repeatable loot from the rewards that still have a weekly limit.
| Reward | Can you earn it again? | What to do next |
|---|---|---|
| Eligible encounter loot | Yes | Repeat the encounter that drops your target |
| Raid Deepsight Chest | Yes | Join a run that includes its activation requirements |
| Featured Director Challenge reward | Weekly | Pursue other loot once you've claimed the bonus |
| Featured hidden-chest rewards | Weekly | Move on to encounter farming after claiming them |
| Vendor's Deepsight purchase | Weekly | Use encounter drops or the Deepsight Chest for further progress |
You can farm eligible encounter rewards outside a featured week too. The weekly bonuses are separate: a featured raid's Director Challenge gives a Deepsight weapon or Tier 5 armor, while its hidden chests give Tier 5 armor. For featured dungeons, both the Director Challenge and hidden chests award Tier 5 weapons and armor.
For the weekly entries, look at the activity's challenge details or the vendor purchase on the character you're bringing. If you've already claimed that reward, another clear won't refresh it. You can still earn the separate repeatable loot.
There is one naming trap here: an encounter challenge and the Director Challenge are different things. The Director bonus has its own weekly limit; encounter challenges appear separately in the loot rules. When arranging a challenge run, name the encounter or the activity bonus you mean.
Changing characters also isn't a universal way around a weekly limit. The allowance depends on the particular reward, so don't plan three claims just because you have three characters.
When to wait for a featured week
Suppose you're after Tier 5 dungeon armor. Your target dungeon isn't featured, and its Standard rewards are Tier 3. You could run Master for Tier 5 where that difficulty is available, or return during its featured week and earn Tier 5 gear on Standard.
That's a useful reason to follow the rotation. A featured Standard dungeon awards Tier 5 weapons and armor, while a non-featured Standard dungeon awards Tier 3. Master awards Tier 5 in either case. Keep that difference in mind when booking a dungeon clear: the difficulty and featured week determine which reward tier you’re working toward.
Raids work a little differently:
- Featured Standard: encounters and encounter challenges award Deepsight weapons or Tier 5 armor.
- Featured Master: the same rewards, with Adept weapons added through encounter challenges.
- Non-featured Standard: a chance of Deepsight weapons, with Tier 3 armor.
- Non-featured Master, encounter challenges and the Deepsight Chest: Deepsight weapons and Tier 5 armor.
Use the difficulties and challenges your chosen raid supports.
So if Tier 5 armor is the goal, featured Standard may save you taking on Master. If you're after an Adept weapon through the featured Master challenge, Standard won't do that job. Pick the difficulty for the reward you're chasing, not simply because harder sounds better.
Two raids and two dungeons are featured each week. Their challenge indicators and position at the top of the Director's Raid and Dungeon category help you find them. Use the current selection when planning your session; an old rotation screenshot can send you to the wrong activity.
Chasing an Exotic
For eligible legacy raid and dungeon Exotic weapon drops, you can repeat the source encounter for another chance without waiting for a featured week. Bungie removed their weekly lockout in September 2025.
That makes a focused encounter farm useful when the Exotic is your only remaining goal. Agree with the group on how many attempts you want to do, then settle into the encounter. The weapon can still refuse to drop: repeatability gives you more attempts, not a guaranteed result after a set number of clears.
For a quest-based Exotic or a catalyst, follow that item's own steps instead. Those goals may take you through the same activity, but the legacy random-drop change doesn't replace their requirements. Newer Exotic weapons also need their own reward rules rather than this legacy shortcut.
What changes in newer activities?
The Desert Perpetual and Equilibrium use a different setup. Standard retains weekly tiered rewards, while encounters with Feats active have repeatable rewards whose quantity and tier depend on the reward grade.
If you're heading into either activity for gear, build your plan around its mode and Feats instead of the older Standard/Master comparison above. For an Exotic, catalyst or cosmetic, use the item's specific acquisition route. The repeatable Feats gear table doesn't settle those separate rewards.
Rotator prices
What CarrySquad charges for the runs mentioned above:
- Raid Rotator, this week's featured raid: $30; both featured raids $55
- Raid Rotator: Deepsight Chest (add-on): +$10
- Dungeon Rotator, this week's featured dungeon: $20; both featured dungeons $35
Quick farming questions
Does Tier 5 guarantee the roll I want?
No. Tier describes the reward's quality. You still need the weapon to drop, and its perks or an armor piece's stats can leave you looking for another copy.
Where should I start if I don't know the encounters?
Learn the activity first, then narrow your farming route. Our Last Wish walkthrough and Grasp of Avarice guide cover the runs themselves. Keep their encounter instructions separate from older loot advice; this reward system has changed since those activities launched.
