Living on the Lawless Frontier: Renegades’ Best New Activities and Rewards
Destiny 2: Renegades launches with a Star Wars-inspired campaign, new Lawless Frontier activities, heat-based blasters, huge sandbox updates, and the Equilibrium dungeon—delivering fresh gear and endgame rewards for veterans and new players alike.
Destiny 2: Renegades is a Star Wars–inspired expansion that pushes Guardians into a scoundrel fantasy, reshapes loot and power progression, and introduces the Equilibrium dungeon as its endgame showpiece. It focuses less on a new destination and more on a refreshed ecosystem of activities, gear systems, and a darker, pulpy campaign set in the Lawless Frontier.

Campaign and Story
Renegades continues the Fate Saga, picking up after The Edge of Fate with The Drifter pulling Guardians into an off‑the‑books operation against a new Cabal faction, the Barrant Imperium, and a mysterious fallen Guardian named Bael. Players operate outside direct Vanguard oversight, forging uneasy alliances with criminal syndicates across the Lawless Frontier while uncovering a larger conspiracy involving The Nine.
The Campaign leans into a space‑western scoundrel tone, with missions framed as jobs and heists rather than traditional military operations. Much of the narrative is anchored around the expanded Cantina social space and repeatable excursions to remixed battle zones on Mars, Europa, and Venus instead of a single brand‑new planet.
New activities and Lawless Frontier
The core repeatable activity is Lawless Frontier, a job‑based activity where you pledge to one of several syndicates (such as the Totality Division, The Pikers, or Tharsis Reformation) and complete bounties, secure contested zones, and repel rival invaders. As you build favor with a syndicate, you unlock Renegade abilities, new gear options, access to previously locked areas, and better rewards from their contracts.
Frontier jobs are designed to feel chaotic and reactive, with objectives shifting as syndicates fight over territory and players call in support during firefights. On top of Lawless Frontier, Renegades refreshes Pinnacle Ops, Fireteam Ops, and Crucible Ops reward pools, adds more difficulty tuning options through the Portal menu, and layers in daily/weekly hub challenges for additional loot.
New Gear and Weapons
Renegades introduces several flagship gear systems, most notably heat‑based “blasters” and the Praxic Blade exotic sword. Blasters are a new weapon family built around a heat mechanic: instead of a traditional magazine, the weapon builds heat as you fire and must be vented rather than reloaded, rewarding aggressive play with big damage spikes if managed well.
The Praxic Blade is an exotic kinetic sword that uses special ammo, capable of reflecting enemy projectiles, performing powerful throws for ranged damage, and dealing heavy close‑quarters strikes; every player acquires a customizable Praxic Blade through the Renegades campaign. Across the expansion, new legendary weapons and armor pieces drop from Fireteam and Solo Ops, refreshed Pinnacle Ops, Crucible Ops, Trials of Osiris, and the new dungeon, alongside a sizable vault space increase and a more generous, better‑curated loot pool.

Gameplay and System Updates
Renegades aims to “realign the ascent to greater power” by smoothing out the power grind and tightening how rewards flow from key activities. Portal and the refreshed Seasonal‑style hub now bundle notable missions and challenges into a more directed menu that pays out bonus rewards for regular engagement.
On the sandbox side, the expansion delivers a broad tuning pass to weapon archetypes and general balance, reworks Portal rewards, and adds new boosters and activity updates across core playlists. Fashion also gets a lift, with changes that make it easier to use cosmetics across multiple armor sets, encouraging more expressive Guardian looks without sacrificing build potential.
Equilibrium Dungeon
Equilibrium is the brand new Renegades dungeon, thematically described as “walking the balanced path between fire and shadow,” and it arrives shortly after launch on Saturday December 13, with a 48‑hour Contest Mode and a global dungeon race. During the Contest window, all teams are temporarily power‑capped, and the first fireteam to clear every encounter and open the final chest earns a unique physical “engram trophy” created for the World First winners.
The dungeon’s loot pool includes six themed weapons that echo classic Star Wars‑style blasters, plus the Praxic Blade as its exotic chase and at least one legendary crossbow‑like bow. Equilibrium is positioned as a high‑coordination, three‑player endgame activity that completes Renegades’ Star Wars‑infused fantasy, giving dedicated players a reason to push builds, master the new weapon systems, and compete for prestige rewards.
