Island Sanctuaries are on their way in Patch 6.2 for Final Fantasy 14
Everything there is to know about Buried Memory, the latest patch for Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIV
If your Warrior of Light hasn’t had any luck in the housing lottery, then it’s time to rejoice. Patch 6.2, also known as Buried Memory, is coming in the latter half of August. If you’ve been scrimping and saving for a small or medium plot in Empyreum or Limsa Lominsa, there’s a better option, your very own Island Sanctuary, in the style of Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing, and other slice-of-life simulators. Don’t think your warrior can afford it? Every Island Sanctuary is set at the low low price of free, though some assembly is required.
While not everything has been revealed about Island Sanctuaries, there’s been enough discussed during Live Letters and revealed in bits and pieces since the concept of the Island Sanctuaries was first revealed side by side with Endwalker that the fanbase can hardly wait for their release. Primarily intended as Solo Content, Island Sanctuaries are instanced areas where players can either explore on their own or invite friends or Free Company members to hang out on their own personal island. And what an island it is. Even though the teaser image Square Enix provided was largely redacted to preserve the feeling of surprise, the sheer size of the island is plain to see, so players will have plenty of space to explore, tame, and customize.
In many ways Island Sanctuaries are an alternative to the current housing market, providing warriors of light a place to set up a home base, farm, and let their mounts and minions run free. But the sanctuaries are much more than that, practically being their own self-contained ecosystem, with its own currency, a separate inventory system, creatures that players can raise, and a marketplace that runs on the Island Sanctuary currency.
But Buried Memory doesn’t just have the much-needed alternative to the cutthroat housing market. Patch 6.2 also brings with it the expansion of the Duty Support system, another boon to solo-play, as well as the next adventures in the Somehow Further Hildibrand Adventures questline, a continuation of the MSQ, and last but not least, Abyssos, the next stage of the 8-player Pandæmonium raids, with the Savage version launching a week after the patch. With so much coming down the pipeline for Final Fantasy 14, you might just want to spend that Gil you had saved up, you won’t need it on your island vacation. Have fun heroes!
