Diablo 4 Meat or Treat 2026: Infernal Butcher, Goblins and How to Farm
Meat or Treat is back in Diablo 4: Infernal Butchers, more Treasure Goblins and special shrines. What is confirmed and how to farm it.
Short answer: Meat or Treat, the Halloween event in Diablo 4, has been live since October 28, 2026. It brings Infernal Butchers that invade your game, more Treasure Goblins, special shrines and "deadly tricks" with a chance at rewards. Blizzard has not announced an end date yet, so play it while it lasts.
Below is what Blizzard has confirmed, what is still unconfirmed, and how to get the most out of the event in a short play session.
What is Meat or Treat in Diablo 4?
Meat or Treat is Diablo 4's Butcher-themed Halloween event. It first ran in 2024, when Dungeon shrines could trigger an extra surprise effect on top of their normal one, good or bad. Blizzard announced the 2026 return on X with one line: "Meat or Treat is haunting Sanctuary once again. Dive in now to face Infernal Butchers, increased Treasure Goblins, special shrines, and brave deadly tricks for a chance at sweet rewards." (Diablo on X)
When does Meat or Treat 2026 start and end?
- Start: October 28, 2026, the same day as Patch 3.2.4.
- End: not announced. For reference only, the 2024 edition ran for 7 days (October 29 to November 5, 2024). We will update this guide when Blizzard confirms a date.
What Blizzard has confirmed
- Infernal Butchers that can invade your game.
- Increased Treasure Goblins.
- Special shrines.
- "Deadly tricks" that you can brave for a chance at rewards.
That is the full official list. Blizzard has not published a reward table, drop rates or a list of activities where the event is stronger.
How to find and beat the Infernal Butcher
The Infernal Butcher is a burning version of the Butcher. When he appears, the game shows the message "The Infernal Butcher has invaded your realm...". Early player reports from launch day describe him showing up in Nightmare Dungeons, so dungeon runs are the most practical way to meet him. Blizzard has not said how much loot he drops.
The fight itself is the familiar Butcher fight: he hits hard up close and chases you down. Keep your movement skills ready, do not stand in front of him when he winds up, and treat him like a mini-boss rather than a random elite. If your build struggles to survive him, the event is a good reason to push your character first.
Treasure Goblins: the real loot of the event
More Treasure Goblins means more Gold and materials per hour. Early reports say the goblin hunt works like the March of the Goblins event, where killing goblins fills a reputation track with Goblin Caches. This is not confirmed by Blizzard for 2026. If it is the same track, the rewards include caches of Gold, Crafting Materials, Murmuring Obols, Gem Fragments and Runes, and a cache with a Resplendent Spark (d4guides.gg).
Goblins run away, so kill them first and fast. Do not get distracted by the pack around them.
How to farm Meat or Treat efficiently
- Run Nightmare Dungeons for shrines and a chance at the Infernal Butcher.
- Hunt goblins in the open world and Helltides, where you cover a lot of ground quickly.
- Play it alongside what you farm anyway. The event adds loot on top of your normal routine, so you do not need a separate plan.
- Do not wait for the last day. The end date is unknown and the last edition lasted only a week.
What else changed in Patch 3.2.4
Patch 3.2.4 (October 28, 2026) is small. According to the official patch notes, the stack size of Prime Evil Splinters goes from 1 to 99, plus stability, visual and UI improvements. The patch notes do not mention the event.
